National Geographic London Store Awarded Top Prize for “Retail Destination of the Year” at Retail Interiors Awards
National Geographic’s London Store received top honours on 29 September's ceremony for the 2009 Retail Interiors Awards, at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel in London. Presented by Retail Week, the ceremony celebrated the best in UK retail interiors and shop fitting companies for the 2009 calendar year. The Awards proved to be a fantastic night, bringing together hundreds of retail and store fitting professionals to honour those who have performed outstandingly over the last year. The National Geographic Store won the prize for “The Best Retail Destination of the year” and was also shortlisted for “The Best In-Store Restaurant of the Year.” The award comes as National Geographic’s first global retail store, which opened in one of the world’s premier shopping destinations, London’s Regent Street in November 2008, celebrates its one-year anniversary. Drawing on National Geographic’s 121-year heritage of inspiring people to care about the planet, National Geographic’s flagship store brings together its products and services in a constantly evolving, culturally inspired setting. More than a traditional retail environment, the Regent Street store features compelling interactive visual displays and state-of-the-art design dedicated to stimulating, educating and inspiring visitors to celebrate global cultures. In addition to its retail marketplace, the store features an exhibition area, auditorium, Pinchos café, travel desk and photography studio, set across three floors and approximately 1,800 square metres (19,375 square feet). At the beginning of this year, National Geographic Store was also honoured by the world’s leading magazine for the licensed property industry, License! Global. The magazine chose the National Geographic London Store as the “Best Licensed Store” 2008 in its prestigious annual awards.
