| “Antique Maps” provides a glimpse at the renowned work of specialist Jonathan Potter, and showcases some of his oldest and most curious items. The exhibition includes maps and charts from the earliest periods of history, crude geographical delineations and some high-quality reproductions. The selected maps combine artistic presentation, scientific techniques and the excitement of the unknown. They vary from the extremely rare to the remarkably decorative. Jonathan Potter has been in the London antique maps business for over 40 years has written and lectured on the subject and this year was honored with the International Map Collectors Society’s Helen Wallis Award – a distinction rarely granted outside academic circles. His book “Collecting Antique Maps”, first published over 20 years ago, is widely regarded as one of the best introductions to a fascinating but relatively unexplored subject. RETURN TO TOP |
